Custom Application Aids Geographically Dispersed Units::

Problem

The Internal Audit department of a large corporation wanted to reduce the complexity of managing geographically dispersed operations. The client needed a way to manage extensive audit operations from time management to data collection, data assimilation, and audit process repurposing.

Solution

No off-the-shelf program met the requirements of the audit group, so the team designed and implemented a custom application. Using Microsoft Standards Based technologies that integrated well with programs already in use within the organization, the team incorporated web-based and stand-alone application elements in an integrated program that facilitated several key management functions.

Enhanced Human Resources processes included:

  • Time Reporting
  • 360-degree Evaluations
  • Aggregated Performance Evaluation Reports

Enhanced project and employee management processes included:

  • Scheduling tools for both one-time and recurring projects
  • Assignment utilities that helped managers to assign employees to jobs based on their skills, preferences, and experience
  • Processes that managed the universe of in progress and potential projects
  • Functionality to assist in managing project completions

Additional features included:

  • An intuitive, user customizable interface
  • Extensive reporting tools (built-in and exportable)
  • The ability to do Time Reporting offline

Important security concerns were met by a series of features including integrated challenge/response domain authentication; access based on user and group; and a hierarchical user structure for oversight and aggregated information.

Result

The solution centralized controls and review of ongoing operations while permitting management to schedule and budget new operations based on up-to-date data.
